This week I worked on adding lighting, collision, and 2D parallax effect to the game. I also learned more about some scripting techniques that help me understand the schooling structure better, so that I can change it to match my design goal.

In terms of input device, based on the suggestions of my advisors, I set up a meeting with Alex Oliszewski to discuss if he sees my proposal of the fish schooling game going into a hospital controlled by gesture or breathing. From the class discussion, I learned that although the salmon’s journey could be a very good story to base my game on, it is everything but relaxing. It would be hard to aim for relaxation, narrative, alternative input devices, and hospital settings all at once.

Therefore, it is probably better to set the narrative aspect aside, and focus on a relaxing schooling game. For the game itself, I haven’t made much progress this week. But I think I’ve learned more about the techniques and thought more thoroughly about the next steps. I also got to discuss with Raul with the additional art assets I’d like to add to the game. I will decorate the game world more once I get them.
